🐦💫🖤✨ Quetzalli — The Sacred Bird. The Sky Stone. The Ring of the Free. ✨🖤💫🐦

Quetzalli (ket-SAH-lee) — from the Náhuatl word for quetzal feather, the most sacred and precious thing in the Aztec world. The quetzal bird — whose iridescent green and blue feathers were worth more than gold, whose plumage adorned the headdress of Moctezuma, whose name was given to Quetzalcoatl, the Feathered Serpent, the god of wind and wisdom and the morning star — was the symbol of freedom, of beauty, of the sacred that exists at the intersection of the earthly and the divine.

In our tradition, the bird on the branch is never just a bird.

It is the messenger. The one who moves between the worlds — between the earth and the sky, between the living and the dead, between the human and the divine. In our culture, birds carry the prayers we send upward and bring back the answers we need. The bird on the branch is the moment before flight — the stillness that precedes the movement, the breath before the word, the pause that holds all the power of what is about to happen.

And the sky blue topaz?

The Aztecs called the sky ilhuicatl — the great vault above, the home of the sun and the stars and the gods who moved through it. The blue of the topaz is that sky — the color of Tlaloc's rain, of the water that feeds the earth, of the space between the clouds where the quetzal flies and the prayers travel and the ancestors watch from above. The stone that carries the sky on your finger, that makes you look down at your hand and remember that you are connected to something vast and ancient and still very much alive.

The Quetzalli Ring is for the one who understands all of this. For the Chicano and Chicana who knows their lineage includes the people who watched the quetzal and understood what it meant — that freedom is sacred, that beauty is power, that the bird on the branch is always about to do something extraordinary. For the one who wears the sky on their finger and the ancestors in their heart.

925 sterling silver. Sky blue topaz. Hollow construction that catches the light like a feather catches the wind. The ring that is both the bird and the branch, both the sky and the stone, both the prayer and the answer.

"Quetzalli — la pluma más sagrada del mundo. El pájaro que vuela entre los mundos. El cielo que llevamos en el dedo."
(Quetzalli — the most sacred feather in the world. The bird that flies between the worlds. The sky we carry on our finger.)

The sacred bird. The sky stone. The ring of the free. 🐦💫

🐦 Materials & Specifications

  • Material: 925 Sterling Silver — 92.5% pure silver, the standard of fine jewelry; the metal of the moon, of the milagro, of everything that catches light in the dark and holds its shape through everything that tries to change it
  • Stone: Sky Blue Topaz (Topa) — the blue of the Aztec sky, of Tlaloc's rain, of the space where the quetzal flies; a gemstone that carries the color of the heavens and the clarity of the prayers that travel through them
  • Treatment Process: Inlaid with gemstone — the sky blue topaz set into the silver with the precision of Aztec craftsmanship, the sky held by the moon, the stone held by the silver
  • Construction: Hollow ring — the open, airy structure that catches the light the way a feather catches the wind; lightweight yet substantial, delicate yet powerful, like the quetzal itself
  • Modeling: Bird on Branch (Counterattack Series) — the sacred bird perched on the branch, the moment before flight, the stillness that holds all the power of what is about to happen; the design that is both art and symbol

🧺 Silver Jewelry Care — Keeping the Sacred Bird in Flight

  • Keep away from water and moisture — sterling silver tarnishes with prolonged exposure; remove before swimming, showering, or washing dishes; the quetzal does not bathe in the rain, it flies above it
  • Store in an anti-tarnish pouch or airtight jewelry box — silver tarnishes with air exposure; the hollow construction has more surface area to protect; store separately from other jewelry to prevent scratching the delicate bird-on-branch detail
  • Polish with a soft silver polishing cloth — gentle, circular motions restore the silver's brilliance; use a cloth specifically designed for silver; pay special attention to the hollow areas where tarnish can accumulate
  • Clean the sky blue topaz with a soft, damp cloth — topaz is durable but should be cleaned gently; wipe with a barely damp cloth and dry immediately; avoid ultrasonic cleaners which can affect the stone's setting
  • Avoid contact with perfume, cologne, hairspray, and harsh chemicals — apply these before putting on the ring; chemicals dull the silver and can affect the topaz's clarity and color
  • Handle the hollow construction with care — the open, airy design is beautiful and slightly more delicate than a solid band; avoid bending or applying pressure to the sides of the ring
  • Pro tip: Store the ring with the bird facing up in a padded ring holder — the hollow construction and the bird detail are preserved best when not compressed; the quetzal rests on the branch, not under it

📐 Size Chart — International to US Ring Sizes

This ring is available in international sizes No. 5–10. Use the chart below to find your US equivalent:

Intl Size US Size Inner Diameter (mm) Inner Circumference (mm) Weight
No. 5 ~5 15.7 49.3 10g
No. 6 ~6 16.5 51.8 20g
No. 7 ~7 17.3 54.4 25g
No. 8 ~8 18.2 57.2 30g
No. 9 ~9 19.0 59.7 35g
No. 10 ~10 19.8 62.2 40g

Measurements may vary slightly due to manual measurement. The quetzal finds its perch — measure carefully and trust the chart.

🎯 How to Determine Your Perfect Fit

  1. Measure your finger: Wrap a thin strip of paper or a flexible tape measure around the finger you plan to wear the ring on. Mark where it overlaps and measure in millimeters — this is your finger circumference.
  2. Match to the chart: Find your circumference in the Inner Circumference column above to identify your international ring size. Cross-reference with the US size equivalent.
  3. Consider the knuckle: If your knuckle is larger than the base of your finger, measure both. Choose a size that slides over the knuckle with slight resistance and sits snugly at the base — the bird should perch, not slide.
  4. Consider the hollow construction: The hollow ring design means the band has a specific width and profile; it should sit comfortably without pinching or spinning. A proper fit is one where the ring moves slightly but does not slide off — como el pájaro en la rama, firme pero libre.
  5. Between sizes? Size up. The hollow construction is slightly more rigid than a solid band; a comfortable fit is essential — Quetzalli encuentra su dedo. El cielo sabe a dónde pertenece.

Sacred Solitary: Quetzalli ring worn alone on the index finger — the single bird that says everything, the sky stone that catches the light like the quetzal catches the sun, the ring that is the whole statement

Aztec Sky Stack: Layered with thin silver bands and a turquoise piece — the full sky energy, the hands that carry the colors of the heavens and the earth in the same stack

Dark Cosmos: Ring with an all-dark look — the sky blue topaz against the darkness, the bird in the night sky, the blue that only exists because of the dark around it

Chicana Celestial: Ring with gold hoops and a bold lip — the sky and the gold, the blue and the warm, the look that honors every ancestor who watched the quetzal and understood what it meant

✨ The Absinthe Society Promise

We create for the ones who carry the sacred bird. For the Chicanos and Chicanas who know their lineage includes the people who watched the quetzal and understood that freedom is not given — it is earned, it is worn, it is carried on the body like a declaration. For the ones who look up at the sky and see not just blue but the color of everything their ancestors prayed toward, everything they navigated by, everything they believed in when belief was the only thing they had.

The Quetzalli Ring is for every person who carries the sky on their finger. For every Chicano and Chicana who wears their heritage with the same pride their ancestors wore their quetzal feathers — openly, beautifully, unapologetically. For the one who is always about to do something extraordinary, perched on the branch, ready for flight.

Unapologetically Chicano. Unapologetically Aztec. Unapologetically Quetzalli.
